Travel Club News

The Travel Club meets the third Wednesday of each month at 10:30 am in Room 202.
The objectives of the Center's Travel Club  include:

Members sharing information on travel opportunities or tours that they have
   already taken and would recommend to others.

Meet the third Wednesday of each month at 10:30 am in Room 202.

To match single travelers with others who want to travel and share
   tour experiences and travel expenses.

To explore new travel and tour adventures, utilizing local travel agencies
   to inform and provide assistance.

To hold "Travelogues" throughout the year...slide show or PowerPoint presentations
   capturing members' wonderful travel experiences that they would share with others.

Gift Certificates. Not sure what to buy friends and family? Get them a gift certificate for The Center For Active Generations! Gift certificates can be used for: Computer classes, fitness memberships, lunch tickets, one-day trips, art classes, the beauty shop and more! Stop by the Center's front desk today to learn more. Elderhostel Information. Don't forget that The Center For Active Generations subscribes to "Elderhostel: Adventure in Lifelong Learning" catalogs. They may be checked out for review at Lisa's office. The catalogs can also be sent directly to your home by ordering them by phone (toll free 1-877-426-8056) or over the Internet at www.elderhostel.org. Elderhostels are a great way to see the world and learn more about interesting landmarks all over the world. There are some wonderful Elderhostel experiences in our own "backyard' in Minnesota and South Dakota! Check out the opportunities today!

Cancellation Policy: To ensure a full refund, the cancellation date for all trips
   is seven days prior to the travel date.

Musical "Chicago" - Lake Benton Opera House and Country House Supper Club
Thursday, July 29

In the roaring twenties, Chicago, Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband Amos to take the rap, until he finds out he has been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another 'Merry Murderess", Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the "American Dream" - fame, fortune, and acquittal. This sharp edged satire features a dazzling score featuring songs like "Razzle Dazzle", "Cell Block Tango", and "Roxie".

Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Old Market Square
Saturday, August 14

Trip includes: Zoo admission, dinner at Old Country Buffet, motor coach transportation, CFAG escort, and travel arrangements. This is a great trip to take your grandchildren on before school starts! Spend a fun day with them!

Itinerary:
7:00 am Check-in at the Center for Active Generations
7:14 am Depart for a fun-filled day in Omaha
9:00 am Breakfast break in Sioux City (on your own)
11:00 am Arrive at the Zoo, where you may visit 15 natural habitats of animals in real settings, including polar, black and grizzly bears in Bear Canyon; gorillas in Gorilla Valley; fish in Scott Aquarium, lions and tigers in the big cat exhibit; butterflies and insects in a special pavilion; and the Lied Jungle. Visitors may move throughout the zoon on a tram or a train (for a small fee) and you may eat lunch at any of the concession stands or the Tree Tops Restaurant (on your own). There is also an IMAX Theatre you may wish to visit.
4:30 pm Depart for Old Country Buffet (included with trip)
6:00 pm Depart for home
7:30 pm Short break in Sioux City
10:15 pm Approximate arrival back in Sioux Falls

Okoboji Summer Theater Side Excursions & Dinner - "Beauty and the Beast" Family Performance
Saturday, August 21 

Based on the Disney movie, this musical has been a smash hit everywhere it plays. We invite you to join Belle, Gaston, mrs. Potts, and of course the Beast, in this exciting musical. This trip will depart at 10:00 am and return at approximately 10:15 pm.  Trip includes: Travel arrangements, bus transportation, bus escort, Queen II Boat Excursion on West Lake Okoboji, tour of Parson's Art Center, shopping at Arnold's Park, Beauty & The Beast Performance, and Dinner Buffet at the Pizza Ranch. There will be a lunch stop at McDonalds prior to the board ride, on your own.

Heritage, History, Family, Velkommen - Norsk Hostfest II
September 30 - October 3

Over the last several years, Norsk Hostfest has become known as North America's largest Scandinavian festival. Along with delicious food, wonderful crafts, and various entertainers, it's a festival to be enjoyed by every one. If you're not Scandinavian, you'll still love Hostfest!
Day 1- Today we head to Minot, ND in our luxury motor coach. Tonight we are entertained by Ireland's new sensational superstar, Daniel O'Donnell.
Day 2 - After a complimentary continental breakfast this morning, our day will be spent enjoying Norsk Hostfest to the fullest. While here, we'll hear many talented performers. The Oak Ridge Boys, Hostfest favorites Williams & Ree, and Norway's top country singer, Bjoro Haaland, are among more than 100 other entertainers on six stages with continuous daily shows.

Day 3 - This morning after our complimentary continental breakfast, we enjoy our last day of festivities at Norsk Hostfest. An afternoon of incredible sounds await you as the Temptations and The Four Tops take the stage in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the listeners at Host fest.

Day 4 - This morning after our last complimentary continental breakfast, sit back and relax for our journey home. It will be fun visiting with our newfound friends about the exciting days we've had at Norsk Hostfest!

August 16 - 20

Just a short jaunt from South Dakota, this four day trip is the perfect get-away to end your summer. Enjoy the beautiful Wisconsin scenery. Trip highlights include: Round-trip ferry ride to Washington Island with guided tour of the island including Schoolhouse Beach, Washington Harbor, "Den Norske Grenda" Stave Church. You will also be treated to a guided tour of Door Country Peninsula to include Bjorklunden Stave Chapel, Farm Market, Founders Square, Eagle Bluff Lighthouse, and the State Park. San Francisco Getaway & lake Tahoe - Featuring Monterey, Sonoma Valley, Sacramento & Virginia City
June 17 - 23, 2010

Highlights of this West Coast Trip begins in San Francisco and starts with a welcome dinner overlooking San Francisco Bay. Enjoy Pier 39 and get a close-up view of the harbor Seals, postcard views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and the Bay. You'll have a sightseeing tour of the city and explore either Fisherman's Wharf or Union Square. Rides up and down the city's thrilling hills on the famed cable car can be taken as well. On to Sonoma Valley with over 40 premium wineries, it is one of the most famous wine-growing regions in the country. You'll experience the rich flavor of Viansa Winery with an elegant food and wine pairing. On to the Monterey Area. Enjoy the famed 17 mile Drive one of the most breathtaking coastlines in the world. You'll get experience the famed Pebble Beach, on to old Monterey and shop at Cannery Row- made famous by John Steinbeck. In the lake Tahoe area you'll enjoy Virginia City, a famous old west town which recalls the heritage of the days of gold and silver mining. An amazing cruise which offers non-stop photo opportunities on the sparkling waters of Lake Tahoe. This trip requires average physical activity. You should be in good health, able to climb stairs and walk reasonable distances, possibly over uneven grounds and cobblestone streets.
 
Trains of the Colorado Rockies
September 3 - 11, 2010

Traverse the Colorado Rockies with Collette Vacations as you journey through the beauty of nature with Alpine Lakers, towering peaks and rolling meadows at every turn. Your tour begins in the "Mile High City" of Denver. You'll head to the resort village of Estes park, and on to the Rocky Mountain National Park where you'll discover the true meaning of "panoramic" as you experience incredible views. You'll travel through the Rocky Mountains on a scenic and historic train ride aboard the Georgetown Loop Railroad. Other side trips include a drive south to the small mining town of Silverton, a national historic landmark. Hidden in the San Juan Mountains, this town offers spectacular scenery, Victorian charm and historic architecture built between 1882 and 1910. Then it's "all aboard' the Durango and Silverton narrow Gauge Railroad. This 1881 coal fired, stem-powered locomotive was built to haul silver and gold ore from the San Juan Mountains, but you will soon realize it is the view that is truly precious. Pick up a tour guide to Read about the last three days of highlights including Mesa Verda National Park, Royal Gorge and Manitou Springs and pikes peak. This is a trip you won't want to miss if nature and majestic views are meaningful to you.
 
New England Back Roads
October 11 - 18, 2010

This trip has been a favorite of Center members for the past ten years. Highlights include arriving in Boston, MA and enjoying all the sites in this historic city. You'll enjoy the Molly Stark Trail, Adams Farm, Shelburne Museum, Cold Hollow Cider, Ben & jerry's Ice Cream Factory, Stowe, Lincoln, North Conway, Booth Bay Harbor and Kennebunkport. You'll experience beautiful coastline views, a fresh lobster dinner in Maine and the beautiful fall foliage of the region of the United States. Pick up a tour itinerary at the Center to see the incredible details of this beautiful northeast tour. Registration deadline: June 11, August 12th final.
